Episode 1: Celestial Triad
Part 1
From a nameless abyss, three random individuals were brought together in a mysterious ancient place.
The first, a well known gnomish assassin by the name of Fizz, saw a glimmering artifact suspended in the pitch black void. The object vanished as soon as he reached for it, but he was suddenly aware of his actual surroundings. He was holding a cloudy prism and standing on a quartz/limestone floor with cerulean curtains that formed the walls. The ceiling was so high, and so dark, that Fizz could not determine the height of the rooms.
The second individual to arrive was VonDitra, an intimidating half-orc knight holding a short sword made of ivory. While in the void, she felt the presence of others but could not hear or see anything in the darkness.
Roe, a druid from a destroyed forest, found herself gasping for air before suddenly awakening in the strange place. She was holding a small bird, which flew away as soon as the trio had fully assembled.
Before they could exchange words, a low disembodied voice spoke the following message:
“The Celestial Triad. Once every 1,000 years.”
This was followed by the faint sound of a bell chiming once from very far away. They spoke briefly to introduce themselves, and quickly decided to learn more about their surroundings. At that, the trio set about exploring.
Moving into the next room, they found a devout cleric smoking a pipe by the a stairwell. He went by “Erminus, Animated Novice” and claimed to be a merchant, though his supplies case had been lost in the lower level while trying to evade danger.
Erminus asked the party to retrieve his case in exchange for a discount, which they agreed to help with. He told the party that this place was known as “Vril Tower,” although he explained that he read this in some texts or an engraving. The party bid Erminus farewell, and proceeded to further explore the level.
While exploring Fizz took particular notice of the construction materials (as gnomes are famously known for) and layout of the rooms. VonDitra, seemed to grow bored of this empty space, and began climbing some of the curtains. Fizz, being lower to the ground, noticed the cerulean curtains lift enough to see the pitch black void beyond them instead of walls.
Just then, the sound of a bird chirping to the north grabbed Roe’s attention, and she led the party through the grand meeting hall. Past the six pillars, to a room with a metal ladder leading up and up into the dark ceiling out of view. The faint chirping could be heard the entire way.
The mood shifted, and a wave of fear washed over the party as they ascended the ladder and found themselves standing on the surface of an ocean of deep red water. The sky was the underside of a massive cloud, a deep shade of violet.
Roe looked up and saw the bird, which flew down and landed on her hand. The party seemed relieved to find something nice in such a gloomy environment and felt a little more at ease about examining the water. Fizz broke his record skipping a rock 18 times across the water.
As VonDitra went to dip her finger into the water, she was stopped by Fizz, who figured it may not be safe. Roe used her natural druidic senses to determine that it was indeed impure. Believing it to be safe to smell rather than ingest, the brave gnome leaned down and took a huge sniff.
His vision suddenly went blurry, before switching to the perspective of a fly on the wall of a room in a random dungeon. In the room, he saw several scaly beings hissing with primitive weapons, huddled together in the corner for warmth. After the hallucination, he was instantly back with the party standing on the ocean, though visibly shaken and ready to leave.
Back in the rooms with the cerulean curtains, the party became fixated on the panels which sat in the center of some of the rooms. VonDitra quickly figured out that she could dig her half-orc nails through the quartz to lift the panels with an extreme amount of effort. Holding it up like a heavy lifter, she looked to her companions for permission, and they decided to smash it by flipping it over. In a tremendous crash, it shattered to the floor into a million pieces, which the party seemed to instantly regret.
Roe pocketed a shard from the panel, which Fizz realized seemed similar to the cloudy prism he began the adventure with.
They walked through the rooms, back towards the stairwell in order to begin searching for Erminus’ supplies. During this short walk, they noticed a small bearded humanoid standing on one of the panels, and they tried to get his attention. Before they could get close enough, he disappeared completely.
VonDitra spent some time examining the panels in every single room, before eventually giving up and dropping the subject. They reconvened in the room with Erminus & the stairwell, and took their first steps into the lower level.
